ZEF: The Story of Die Antwoord

and the emergence of beautiful niche magazines.

Like many people, I’ve known about Die Antwoord for a while but haven’t been very close to their work. I remember seeing strange music videos from 15 or so years ago, and I remember talking with friends about how different they were to other bands…but they definitely stood out so when this documentary popped up I needed to watch it.

Through watching the film this week I understood a lot more about their journey, and how epic it has been. The film itself was directed by their favourite Art Director, Roger Ballen, and so the film itself encapsulates a lot of their attitude and creative direction.

Even after watching the film, it is hard for me to say how I truly feel about Die Antwoord creatively but they have a certain magnetism and once you start watching, its hard to look away.
