The World of Studio Ghibli
The legendary animation studio’s first exhibition in Singapore
One of my favourite films and characters from Studio Ghibli’s magical worlds is coming to life in Singapore with The World of Studio Ghibli—the legendary animation studio’s first exhibition in the country. Launching on October 4th at the ArtScience Museum, this immersive experience takes fans on a journey through the realms of classics like My Neighbour Totoro (1988), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), and Spirited Away (2001).
Spanning 11 galleries across two levels, the exhibition features 16 massive, theatrical sets created by Japanese artists on-site, recreating scenes from 11 iconic Ghibli films. Visitors can step into these fantastical worlds—from Howl’s Moving Castle to Princess Mononoke—and explore art installations that showcase the studio’s signature craftsmanship and storytelling.
Founded in 1985 by Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki, and Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghibli has become a global powerhouse, earning seven Academy Award nominations and making history with an Honorary Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. This exhibition offers a rare chance to dive into Ghibli’s rich legacy and experience the characters and stories that have captured hearts for nearly 40 years.
